We are seeing the most comprehensive, direct, and cruel agenda against the LGBTQ+ community in recent history, with an unprecedented targeting of the trans, nonbinary, and gender nonconforming community. GLAAD has put together the following tracker of attacks from the current administration: https://glaad.org/trump-accountability-tracker/.
Bay Bridge and Germantown Community Coalition unequivocally admonish these recent harmful actions against some of the most marginalized people in our communities. We proudly stand with the LGBTQ+ community and other groups who have been targeted by the dismantling of diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives.
We have begun to see the impact of these federal actions at the local level. For example, per the Trump administration's Executive Order, the WIAA has banned all transgendered girls from playing in girl’s sports without exception. This decision elevates dangers for the trans community, sends a message of erasure to the entire queer community, and unfairly targets youth who are already vulnerable.
Bay Bridge and Germantown Community Coalition oppose efforts to sow seeds of hate against any group. We are committed to making our communities an inclusive and welcoming place for all to survive and thrive with dignity.
We are thankful to have a network of incredible organizations that support and uplift the queer community. Below is a list of resources. Please share this with members of the LGBTQ+ community in your life. The community needs allies now, more than ever.
Sincerely,
The Boards of Directors
Bay Bridge & Germantown Community Coalition
