Mama Bears
Film Screening and Discussion
October 2024
GCC hosted a free screening of the documentary "Mama Bears" followed by a discussion panel at the Germantown Performing Arts Center.
The film focuses on a group of women who call themselves “mama bears” because of the ferocity with which they fight for their children’s rights. Although they grew up as fundamentalist, evangelical Christians, these mothers are willing to risk losing friends, family, and faith communities to champion their LGBTQ+ kids.

The event also featured LGBTQ+ history displays from curator Vince Trippi - "Blossom and Wilt: Queerness under fascism c. 1791-1944" and "Flyover Country: Firsts in LGBT+ activism, agitation organization and understanding in the Midwest."
We thank our partner organizations the Youth and Family Project, Friends, Inc., Just Us of Washington County, Bay Bridge, NAMI of Washington County, Fair Wisconsin, and Expanding Horizons for their support.
